CALIFORNIA HONEYMOON 1987
After our wedding in 1987, we both had a few weeks off to really make a special Honeymoon vacation, so the day after we had a gift opening at Norine's parents with our families, and then loaded up my Van and headed for the border. We would work our way down along the coast through Washington, Oregon and California, what could possibly go wrong?
We had a good laugh as we crossed the border into Washington, Norine tells me about how she can't sleep while a vehicle is driving. The next time I look over, she is sound asleep, must be those comfy captains chairs.
The Van I traded my old Cougar in for, was a 1980 Ford Econoline, custom Shag carpet interior with a fold down nook to make a bed, and a storage cabinet for the rest of our camping gear. The challenge for us was that it ran on propane, and the fuel guage didn't work, so you had to base it on mileage. Propane fuel is readily available in Canada, but less so in the US, and especially after 5:00. We learned this the hard way, and spent the first night of our honeymoon parked on the docks at the Washington/Oregon border waiting for the gas station to open.
Oregon Coast and Dune City
Our second night in Oregon wasn't much better, we got to the gas station, but once again the propane pumps closed at 5:00. So we spent the second night of our honeymoon parked behind a gas station... only the best for my new bride.
